Dr. Gallant Teaches Single-Nucleus RNA-seq at Neural Systems & Behavior in Woods Hole

Dr. Jason Gallant is at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, to lead the genomics component of the Electric Fish Module in the Neural Systems & Behavior (NS&B) course, June 8–13, 2026.

His hands-on lesson in single-nucleus RNA-seq (snRNA-seq) asks how the androgen 11-ketotestosterone reshapes gene expression across the electrosensory system at single-cell resolution. Students prepare hormone implants, record electric organ discharges, isolate nuclei, and work through the full analysis pipeline (quality control, normalization, integration, clustering, cell-type annotation, and differential expression) using real data from the mormyrid Brienomyrus brachyistius.

All of the course materials are freely available online.
